...and the writing

Prompt 2 | Writing. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it? (Author: Leo Babauta)

I don't think there are many things I do that do not contribute to my writing, except maybe sleep. One thing that probably does not help is my extensive web surfing. If web surfing were an actual sport, I'd be an Olympian. One link on Twitter can send me hundreds of pages away to a random blog in the middle of nowhere-net-dom. I am easily distracted and easily amused. Hence the internet crawling.

I don't think I would eliminate such surfing though. I'm sure I could scale it back a little, but there is so much inspiration to be found on the internet between the people and the content.

This post is part of my contribution to the Reverb 10 story project.

ETA: I've decided to discontinue the posting of my responses to Reverb10 on this blog. I will be continuing the project in a private journal. However, I still fully encourage and support participation in their project. I hope you will take a look at their site and check out their daily prompts!

just one

Hey there! Still debating those trees and lights? We'll get to that, but for now, I wanted to share a new blog project I joined: Reverb10. For the next 31 days, I'll be reflecting on the past year and figuring out what I want from the future.

Easy enough, right? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Day 1: One WordEncapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you?

Aware. I feel like the entire past year has been nothing more than making one discovery after another. I have become aware of so many things. Figuring out what my strengths are and then finding even more weaknesses.  Identifying fears that I didn't even know existed until now. Watching true friends come out of the woodwork to help me out. Watching less than true friends try to break me down. I've begun to see what it is that I think I want out of life and what steps are necessary to make that happen. I'm becoming increasingly aware of the difficulties of being an adult. This is not the life I imagined, but I'm taking it one step at a time.

One year from now, I want to see myself in transition from the life I lead to the life I want to live. Again, taking it one step at a time.

The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware.
