Ice, ice baby

My little world is kind of freaking out. It seems the clouds are about to open up and pour sheets of ice on my part of the state. There was also talk of a foot of the pretty, white stuff, but that seems to have fallen to the wayside.

I would much prefer the snow. Ice storms scare me. They tend to start out pretty, like this:

But it soon turns to this:

I experienced a similar ice storm six years ago, and it didn't end so well. Transformers across town were blowing up like fireworks. It left tens of thousands of people without power.

I spent several nights sleeping on an air mattress in a garage. Grocery shopping took place in the dark with a flashlight. Sure, it left me feeling like a criminal, but I got a good deal on ice cream. Grateful would be an understatement to how I felt when the power was finally restored.

This time, I'm prepared. We have a power generator, and I have enough crochet and art supplies to keep me busy for weeks. The real concern here is, do I have enough of my sanity in tact to take on the ice storm? I'll let you know how that one turns out.

  2. We just keep getting dumped with snow... and I'm eternally grateful for that. You're right, ice storms are scary.
